Deerfield Beach Middle School continues to challenge the norms of middle school education by providing outstanding opportunities for academic achievement and "whole child" advancement for our students. The combination of rigorous classroom activities and fitness programs will promote lifelong skills in the school setting.

This year, every students will focus on the successful, "Read To Grow" literacy campaign that propelled us from a "C" grade to a "B" grade. Students are heavily invested in the Accelerated Reader program, and they have broken all sorts of records achieving high reading goals. DBMS allows for twenty minutes of silent reading each day, and every classroom is stocked with books and magazines to facilitate this reading session.

Eleven wireless laptop carts connect our students to the outside world, and a recently completed installation of a schoolwide wireless system will allow students, staff, and guests the privilege of accessing the Internet from every area of the school. Computer assisted instruction is available in every classroom, and several labs are configured with the latest technology to distribute learning in a variety of curriculum areas.

The International Baccalaureate Program, as sanctioned by IBO in Switzerland, is engaging students in a rigorous course of study that ultimately results in earning college credits upon successful matriculation through the high school I.B. program. Preparation at the middle school level is key to providing the necessary skills to the advanced level students.

The two million dollar cooperative swimming pool project with the City of Deerfield Beach is providing our Health and Wellness Magnet students with water safety classes during the school day, as well as an opportunity for them to enjoy its refreshing environment before and after school. The Fitness Center and Aerobics Room are geared towards awareness of the cardiovascular system, and the application of exercise programs which enhance daily performance. An extracurricular sports regimen permits a full year of competitive activities that stress sportsmanship, lifelong health awareness, and management of superior academic grades during the process.
