Health and Social Wellness Education aims to educate the whole person and strives to prepare students for a physically and mentally healthy life, aware of potential hazards, and able to make informed choices. It also develops a sense of responsibility in students for their own well-being as well as an appreciation for the physical and social environment. Students develop an awareness of themselves as they relate to others as well as their ability to make choices form alternatives and to evaluate and make informed decisions about health hazards they may face. The content includes physical, psychological, sociological, economic, and legal aspects of health exploring such topics as:
Hygiene, Physical and Mental Health, Nutrition, Exercise, Sports, Sex Education, Interpersonal Relations, Life in Society.
Students spend one period per day in a Health & Wellness Course each quarter of the school year. Topics covered are grade level specific.
An appreciation for the physical and social environment. An awareness of themselves as they relate to others. The ability to evaluate and make informed decisions about health hazards they may face.
